The key aim of integrating technology into teaching and learning at Unley High School is to ensure that all students have the opportunity to become competent, discerning and creative users of a range of technologies. This integration has the potential to engage students in ways not previously possible, enhance their achievement, create new learning opportunities, and extend their interaction with local and global communities.

Unley High School has adopted a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Policy. From 2027, students enrolling in Year 7 will be required to purchase a Windows device through the Department’s BYOD Portal. These devices and mandatory configuration on them will be managed by the School for the duration of the student’s enrolment.

While this managed BYOD program will be mandatory for Year 7 students from 2027, it will also be available to students in all other year levels.

The Managed BYOD program will commence with the 2027 Year 7 cohort only and will move through the school progressively. 

Students in Years 8 and 9 are required to bring their own iPad, fully charged, to school each day. Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 are required to bring their own device to school and may choose either a Windows or Apple device to suit their learning needs.

Lenovo ThinkPad E14 8GB

Lenovo thinkPad E14 16GB

Both devices include a 3-Year Advanced Education Warranty with Accidental Damage Protection, providing cover for manufacturing faults and accidental damage throughout the warranty period.

Years 8 & 9

Students are required to bring an Apple iPad for years 8 & 9.

Minimum Recommendations:

  • Updatable to the latest iOS (currently iOS27)

  • 9.7 Inch Screen (or more)*

  • 128 GB (or more)**

  • Sturdy Case (eg STM Dux)

  • Needs to be updatable for 3 years

  • WiFi Only Models Preferred, SIM cards from 4G models will need to be removed for school.

*iPad Mini not acceptable due to their small screen size causing typing and reading limitations.

Samsung / Android Tablets are not Apple iPads. They are not compatible with our systems or learning program.

Years 10, 11 & 12

Students in years 10, 11 & 12 have the option to bring a Windows or Apple Laptop or an Apple iPad (their preference)

Minimum Requirements:

  • 8 hour battery life
  • Dual Band WiFi (5 Ghz Wifi capable required for school)
  • 13 Inch laptop screen (or more)
  • Less than 2 Kg
  • Protective Case
  • No Android Devices or Chromebooks

Free Home Internet Access for Students

Free internet access is available to students who don’t have reliable internet at home.

There are currently 2 options for eligible families:

  • the department’s student home internet program
  • the Australian Government’s School Student Broadband Initiative.

Reliable internet access supports online study at home, for the purpose of extended learning. It also allows teachers to design more learning experiences that use digital technology.
