Unley High School students excel in external academic competitions

Throughout the year, UHS offers a range of unique academic competitions from various subject disciplines. If a UHS student wishes to participate in any of the following competitions they need to log into the Competitions Hub on the Student Intranet with their student Google Account.

Mathematics Competitions

Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC)

The AMC is Australia’s most well-recognised mathematics competition. It is a one-off event, consisting of 30 maths problems to be solved within a period of time, under test conditions.

Australian Intermediate Mathematics Olympiad

The AIMO is a challenging maths competition aimed towards high achieving students between Years 7 to 10.

Hamman School Mathematics Competition

The HSMC is a South Australian maths competition run annually by MASA.

The Australian Science Olympiads Junior

Science Olympiads Earth and Environmental

The Australian Science Olympiads are a staged science enrichment program for highly motivated students in Australian high schools. The ultimate goal of the Australian Science Olympiads is to select the team to represent Australia at the International Science Olympiads.

This competition gives students the opportunity to develop their problem-solving skills through algorithmic thinking. It incorporates unique ‘three-stage tasks’ that encourage students to develop informal algorithms and apply them to test data of increasing size or complexity.

Furious Fiction

On the first weekend of each MONTH, we invite you to put your storytelling skills to the test in the ultimate writer-takes-all short story challenge. Your job is to race the clock to come up with your best 500 words-or-fewer story in just 55 hours. Welcome to Furious Fiction!

Young Writers Award 2023

The Young Writers Award is open to all South Australian students. It is free of a topic. You may write poetry or prose, up to 1000 words.

There are categories from Reception to Year 12.

ICAS Writing tests writing skills

In recognition of the subject’s educational and practical importance, ICAS Writing assessments are designed to provide an objective ranking of students’ performance based on the curricula for the relevant year.

ICAS Spelling Bee

Spelling is a critical component of literacy, communication and broader academic success. It’s a complex skill involving phonological, orthographical, morphemic and etymological knowledge, and one that is important to master.
