Unley High school is an IB Word School having been authorised to deliver The International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB Dip) in June this year. The Program will be offered from the start of 2022. It is a world recognised program taught in 159 countries and in over 5,500 schools (May 2021). The IB Diploma encourages breadth and depth of learning allowing young people who haven’t decided on a future pathway to keep their options open. It is a rigorous, two-year program, DP1 and DP2 are the equivalent of Year 11 and Year 12, respectively.
The subjects together with the IB Core promote the development of the Learner Profile attributes and reinforce the IB mission statement.
IB learners are:
- Inquirers
- Knowledgeable
- Thinkers
- Communicators
- Principled
- Open-minded
- Caring
- Risk-takers
- Balanced
- Reflective
Studies have shown that IB students are better equipped for University studies as a result of a focus on Approaches to Learning (ATLs), which encourages independent thinking and taking responsibility for their own learning.
They undertake the study of six subjects, one from each of the Subject groups (see below) as well as The IB Core which is comprised of: The Theory of Knowledge (TOK); Creativity, Activity & Service (CAS) and the Extended Essay (EE).
Students choose to study 3 subjects at Higher Level (HL) and 3 subjects at Standard Level (SL).
Each subject has an Internal (IA) and External Assessment (EA) Component. Students are graded using Grades 1 to 7 according to the subject’s Grade Descriptors as outlined in the IB Programme Outline.
For subjects offered in each category see Curriculum Guide.
