New iPad Set up for Middle School

If you are buying a new iPad for 2026, before you bring it to school please ensure that you have

opened the box
charged It
turned it on
set up an Apple ID with Family Sharing with another Apple Device if possible
downloaded the Apps you will need for school. Please refer to the Tools for Learning on the Transition to High School page

If you are a new year 7 Student please book into a Year 7 iPad Set Up Sessions.
Our goal is to ensure year 7 students are ready for day one, so attending an iPad set up session before school starts is the best option for your child. If you cannot attend one of these days, or you are from year 8 or 9 with a new iPad, sessions will be run at school in week 1 to complete the set up for you.

Some answers to some Common Questions:

Do we need an Apple iPad – why not an Android Tablet?

Unley High School runs a successful Apple iPad Program in the Middle School. An Android Tablet will not work for this program or at our school. Students who bring Android Tablets will be asked to bring an Apple iPad instead.

What are the Minimum iPad requirements?

9.1 Inch screen or larger
Updatable for the next 3 years
Wifi Only (preferred)
64GB or more (128GB Preferred)

Do we need to download the Apps that cost money?

You can wait for these apps to be used in class, but teachers may expect these apps to be ready for class.

Sim Cards?

Mobile phones are not allowed in classrooms and neither are sim cards in student iPads.
